LCA of the Njord XP-2 air cleaner
Life cycle assessment – Njord XP-2
Njord has carried out a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the Njord XP-2 industrial air purifier. Conducted in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, the assessment covers the product’s entire life cycle, from raw materials and manufacturing to use, maintenance and end-of-life recycling, to evaluate its overall climate impact.
The Life Cycle Assessment shows that the climate impact from materials and manufacturing is low. The greatest opportunity to further reduce the product’s climate impact lies in the use phase, where demand-controlled operation and energy-efficient use can make a significant difference. Like all our industrial air purifiers, the Njord XP-2 is equipped with intelligent features for demand-controlled and energy-efficient operation. Through automatic control functions, scheduling and demand-based regulation, the system adjusts operation to actual requirements, ensuring high air purification performance with the lowest possible energy consumption. This enables users to actively reduce both energy consumption and climate impact without compromising air purification performance.
When combined with fossil-free electricity and optimised filter replacement intervals, this can significantly reduce the product’s climate impact throughout its service life. Energy-efficient operation is therefore the most important factor in reducing the total carbon footprint of an industrial air purifier. The Life Cycle Assessment is based on a technical service life of 25 years. During this period, the air purifier’s main components remain in use for virtually the entire life cycle, while only the filters are replaced as part of ongoing maintenance. The long service life, combined with intelligent control and optimised energy consumption, enables efficient use of resources and a significantly lower carbon footprint over time.
Climate Impact Assessed Across the Entire Life Cycle
The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) covers:
- Raw materials
- Component manufacturing
- Transportation
- Assembly
- Operation over a 25-year service life
- Filter replacements
- Recycling and end-of-life waste management
Life Cycle Assessment Summary
- Low carbon footprint from materials and manufacturing.
- Demand-controlled operation optimises energy consumption.
- Fossil-free electricity and optimised filter replacement intervals further reduce climate impact.
- Long product service life supports efficient resource use and a lower lifetime carbon footprint.
