As a Health & Safety Specialist focusing on occupational health and workplace safety, my primary responsibility is the overall health, safety and protection of employees within the production environment. This involves analysing workplaces, identifying risks and developing effective measures to promote safety, ergonomics and wellbeing. A key part of the role is improving general working conditions, for example through ergonomic design, prevention of physical and mental strain, analysis of accident risks and promotion of healthy working practices. The objective is to create a working environment that is both safe and supportive of long-term health.

During the production of bakery products, airborne dust is regularly generated from ingredients such as flour, starch and other powdered raw materials. Dust levels are particularly high during dosing and mixing processes and when handling dry components. This presents not only hygiene requirements but also challenges from both an occupational health and engineering perspective. Before the installation of Njord air cleaners, there was a noticeable dust burden in certain areas, leading to increased cleaning requirements and shorter maintenance intervals for machinery. Employees in some areas reported irritated airways and an uncomfortable indoor climate. In addition, sensitive production sections required exceptionally high levels of cleanliness to ensure consistent, high-quality products. Variations in air quality could lead to additional work and potentially affect processes.

Since the installation of the Njord air purification system, the working environment has improved significantly. Dust levels have been reduced both measurably and perceptibly (measurements carried out by BGN), resulting in cleaner air and a more comfortable indoor climate. Employees working in areas with particularly high dust exposure have experienced a clear improvement.

The technical benefits are also evident: machinery remains cleaner, filters and components accumulate less dust, and cleaning requirements in the affected zones have been reduced. This has contributed to more stable processes and longer maintenance intervals. In food production, clean air plays a central role both in protecting employee health and in ensuring the hygienic safety of products.

Effective air purification makes a significant contribution to reducing dust and particle loads and therefore supports requirements relating to hygiene, occupational safety and plant availability. Clean air also helps to avoid process disruptions, protects materials from unwanted contamination and reduces wear on machinery. Overall, air purification is an important component in safeguarding product quality, employee protection and stable production over the long term.

The decision to choose Njord was based on the combination of high filtration performance, energy-efficient technology and a modular, adaptable system. The units can be integrated into existing food production environments without major modifications or production stoppages. Other decisive factors were the documented effectiveness in reducing fine dust particles, ease of maintenance and reliable filtration technology. Njord was able to demonstrate clearly how the systems can be optimally applied within the bakery industry, which was an important factor in the decision-making process.

Cooperation with Njord has been highly professional from the outset. Installation was carried out smoothly and efficiently without causing unnecessary disruption to ongoing production. Communication has been personal, accessible and solution-oriented. The subsequent service has also proved reliable: maintenance is planned in consultation with us, technical questions are answered promptly, and adjustments are implemented without difficulty. As a customer, you feel well supported and taken seriously.

Njord air cleaners have clearly demonstrated their value in the production environment. Air quality has improved over the long term, employees experience less strain, and facilities and processes benefit from reduced dust loads. The systems operate reliably, are energy efficient and can be flexibly adapted to different production areas. Overall, it is a convincing solution that offers clear advantages from both an occupational health perspective and an operational business perspective.
